The ancient Isle of Purbeck... Standing on the top of our Ridgeway you are surrounded on three sides by a vast sweep of sparkling water. Towering chalk stacks like great pillars rise up out of the sea’s depths, and it all seems very close to Heaven. The presence of white radiant light fills the senses.
Opposite a short footpath to the beach, we are to be found in Edwardian New Swanage. Backed by rolling Purbeck hills we face towards the sea. Burlington Road is a quiet cul-de-sac around 15 minutes walk from the centre of Swanage. The footpath opposite our front entrance winds down through a chine dotted with brightly painted beach huts to a safe sweep of golden sandy beach. To the left are the white cliffs of Ballard Down and to the right is a beach walk along the front into Swanage. The Dorset Coastal path passes along our road on its way to Studland. Around the corner at Durlston a family of Dolphins play in the sea off cliffs where Puffins and Peregrine Falcons can be spotted! Chalk stacks to rugged old Stone quarries bitten out of the cliffs... Dinosaur footprints, turquoise sea and yellow sands; Ancient Barrows and Stone Circles. Purbeck has a rich variety of temptations on offer including sailing diving and wind surfing and golf. There is also a boat from Swanage's Victorian pier, (or the ferry from Studland) and in half an hour or so step off into the heart of cosmopolitan Bournemouth with all the amenities of a large town. Don’t forget your swimming costume!!!
